The Lexia Summer Curriculum consists of an Orientation Seminar and the following academic courses:
The Language Course
(LANG 137/237/337; LANG 437 Special Topics)
4-6 Semester/6-9 Quarter Credits
60-90 Hours
The Area Studies Seminar
(PLSC 437)
4 Semester/6 Quarter Credits
60 Hours
Elective Course (optional)
(INTL 437 Special Topics)
2 Semester/3 Quarter Credits
30 Hours
Optional elective courses are offered at some locations and are arranged by the Resident Director. These courses are generally in the humanities and social sciences.
All elective courses are taught in English or the host country's language, depending upon availability and student interest. Participants may choose to continue the Language Course in place of taking an elective course, in which case they will receive an additional two semester (or three quarter) credits for 30 more hours of instruction. If students choose the additional language option, they will receive a single grade for the entire six semester (or nine quarter) credits of language.
The summer curriculum is designed for participants to choose only one elective course. However, selection of an additional course can occasionally be accommodated once on site with the consent of the Resident Director. Students who take two elective courses reduce their overall language instruction to 30 hours (two semester/three quarter credits).
